Back to work.

So first week back working after Christmas has gone well. Had a lovely meeting with REtrose and have started developing my website so hopefully that will be up an running in the not too distant future and of course the REtrose website too!

I don’t ever like to put a favourite on any of my Christmas presents but this year I did have one from my lovely flatmate which topped the rest. She brought me a gig ticket but went to the extra effort of stitching me a representation of the ticket (pictured below). So I have to say a big thank you to StitchCity for just being awesome!

While on the subject of my flatmate she received some books for Christmas. All great British classics and firm favourites of mine, what really made this great though was the absolutely beautiful cover designs on all of them (pictured below). The illustrator Coralie Bickford-Smith created them and I think they are utterly beautiful. To be honest I’m rather sad that I don’t own them, still they are in my flat so I get to stare at them a lot!

On a final note I mentioned in my last post that we were busily hand crafting decorations for our flat over Christmas. I think it all looked really good and the table looked great for our Christmas meal. I took a few snaps of the fetivities and wil include a few below.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and new year :)

Free time can be a good thing…….

So things have been busy recently, just spent 2 weeks getting a bit of experience over in BBC’s Countryfile magazine offices which was awesome. The Feb issue will contain a number of pages created by myself! Also got to go on a photoshoot which was brilliant, if a little soggy and cold!

Thankfully things are starting to wind down a little for Christmas now, which is great because I finally have a bit of time to work on my own brand a little and attempt to get my website up and running. However there is still work to be done for the lovely people at Velvet Ice and of course the wonderful REtrose. So when the new website launches there should be a nice portfolio update too.

As Christmas is on the way myself and Stitch City are busy transforming our flat ready for the festivities. Being the creative types we are, we are making all of our decorations this year, including the tree…… although how successful that will be still remains to be seen but there will be pictures!

Finally heres a little card I made for my dads birthday, it’s not exactly cutting edge design but it suited him, showing two of his big loves – Man City football club and wine! And heres a sneak peak at new Lyd Design brand.

Quick update.

Lovely and productive day today, several projects are starting to come together nicely. I am also off to a friends wedding next week so I may even have some new photos to add to my collection, which is great.

I thought I would post the following, I made it as a leaving present for a work friend from all the team and I had a lot of fun doing it. Also shown is the wonderful new print that now sits upon my living room wall by the awesome illustrator Cathryn Weatherhead. It translates to ‘welcome to our home’.

Wow it’s been a while!

So I thought when I finished Uni I would have plenty of spare time to work on this blog, my portfolio and my website. Wow was I wrong. Today is the first day in months I have actually had time to sit down and work on personal things, and that’s only because I refused to do anything else today! Since finishing uni I have officially become a freelance designer, which is wonderful, if a little hectic at times! The biggest news is the work I have been doing for the company Pretty Nostalgic. A fantastic new publishing company run by Nicole Burnett and Sarah Legg, who are awesome to work with! There has been lots of photo shoots and some design for the new book they are releasing next year written by the two women and following that the release of a magazine from the company. Obviously I’m a little biased but I do genuinely believe this book and magazine are going to be fantastic and anyone with an interest in anything vintage or artisan crafts should look out for them next year because they will be something you will need on your bookshelves!

In other news today I got my Behance portfolio up and running, nothing new on there yet but in the coming weeks there will be which will be exciting! I also have a Twitter now which was a little dangerous but it’s not sucked up too much of my life…. yet!

Finally saw these on the Design Taxi website today… totally want these in my flat these Christmas!

The final show

So uni is finished and the long 3 years ended in one super quick week of our final show. It’s a little difficult to grasp that a week ago today I had just finished setting up the show and now its all been taken down and is sitting in bags in my hallway! Don’t worry that is not where its all going to stay! So here are a few snaps from the show of my work Later on I will post a more in depth look at the project. I also want to say I thought our show was fantastic this year, really proud of everyone, and I am totally going to miss uni.

The degree is finished……….. well, mostly!

So my final project is finished, aside from printing the finals and putting up the show boards but the late nights and being chained to my desk can stop for a while which is nice!

So as not to spoil my final show heres only a small preview of the work which, of course, involves a logo!

The first images comes from our exhibition posters, give me a message if you would like more details on how to attend the show.
